Joel Karsten, author of Straw Bale Gardens, discusses why gardening in straw bales works and how it can benefit people growing food and even ornamental plants. Mike talks to a trio of bee experts--Dr. May R. Berenbaum of the University of Illinois; Jeffrey R. Pettis from the USDA Agricultural Research Service; and Zac Browning, co-owner of Browning Honey Co. Inc. in North Dakota, Idaho and California--about the factors behind the tremendous loss of honey bees in the United States and elsewhere. Jordan Parker from Bring Your Bag Chicago promotes their installation of 2,568 plastic bags at Figment Chicago. That number represents the number of single use plastic bags used every minute in Chicago.
