July 3, 2016 - Sisters of the Soil, Water and Strawberries
Leah Gauthier is a food artist (yes, you read that right) who has almost single-handedly managed to rescue the famed Marshall Strawberry from oblivion. She reports on her progress. Lisa Kivirist is the author of Soil Sisters: A Toolkit for Women Farmers. She and fellow farmer Jen Riemer of Riemer Family Farm talk about the difficulties women face in starting their own farms, and promote a couple of events that they hope will encourage women who think they have an urge to work the land. Rebecca Grill, Natural Areas Manager for the Park District of suburban Highland Park, explains why it is important to preserve the character of fresh water ravines that flow into Lake Michigan.
