Doreen G. Howard is the author of Heirloom Flavor: Yesterday's Best Tasting Vegetables, Fruits and Herbs for Today's Cook, and talks to Mike about the benefits (including flavor) of growing, buying, cooking and eating heirloom varieties. Tom Shepherd from the Southeast Environmental Task Force explains why the growing piles of petcoke along the Calumet River pose a threat to the health and well-being of Chicagoans in the area. He is joined by Stephen Boyle of DCATS - Detroit Coalition Against Tar Sands and Chris Wahmoff of MI CATS - Michigan Coalition Against Tar Sands, who have been fighting similar battles in that state.
